Endings, Beginnings, and the In Between
Here we are, almost at the end of summer, but not quite in autumn. Energetically we feel it, this inbetween space, we can describe it as feeling in limbo, hanging on to what’s leaving and not quite ready for whats coming.
This in between space can leave us feeling restless and even unsettled. Its the energy of endings and beginnings brushing up against each other. We feel it in the softer light, in the subtle shift in the air, and in our own bodies and minds.
This in between space may leave us feeling restless, but it also holds potential. When we choose to pause, rather than rush through, we can use this moment to reflect, to realign, and to move forward with intention. Intention can be a powerful ally but it requires us to slow down and get clear with how we use our time, energy and gifts. This space between Summer and Autumn can be an opportunity to celebrate how far we’ve come, release what no longer serves us, and make space for what we are calling in next.
The Energy of Lughnasadh
At the start of August is the pagan celebration of Lughnasadh (or Lammas), the first of the harvest festivals in the Wheel of the Year. It’s a time of gratitude, to honour the fruits of our labour, to give thanks for what has grown and flourished, and to acknowledge the abundance in our lives.
But it’s also a reminder that every harvest comes with endings. We can look at what habits, patterns, or energies we are ready to let go. We need to release and make space for new growthn and plant the intention to follow these.
Rituals for the In-Between
For years now I’ve found rituals to be a great way of bringing meaning and importance to intention to my every day life. And they don’t need to be complicated, we just need to be mindful and intentional as we move through our day, week, year…..
When we acknowledge to good and release whats not working we create room for new energy, new ideas, new routines, new rituals and we naturally get into better alignment with our values.
Try the following short ritual to honour this pause so you are ready to move into autumn intentionally
Practice Gratitude.
Take a few quiet moments to reflect on what you’ve achieved or cultivated this year big or small. Write them down and celebrate them.
Release what no longer serves you
Write a habit, a thought pattern, or belief that feels self sabbotaging or heavy, on a piece of paper. Safely burn it, tear it up or bury it, to release it.
Pause in the inbetween
Spend a few minutes outside, try at sunset or sunrise and notice the change in light, the sounds in the air and smells around you. Make it a reminder that transitions are natural, and that pausing is grounding and allows for transformation.
Small Shifts for Alignment
This season of change is also an invitation to check in with how we’re living day to day. Often, it’s not the dramatic changes that bring us into alignment with our best selves but the small, consistent shifts:
- Choosing whole, nourishing food over something processed
- Stepping outside for a walk instead of another scroll on the phone
- Going to bed a little earlier
- Drinking more water
- Simplifying the products we use on our bodies and in our homes
When you start to stay consistent, pretty soon you notice the positive effect that even changing one thing can have. It starts with a pause and an intention and is followed by action. And the best thing is every time you choose to take action, however small, you build that muscle and confirm that you are the person that can rely on yourself to show up and do the thing!
Happy in between!.
