Reiki and Menopause

Menopause is a transformative time, it can be challenging for sure, but it also offers us the opportunity to bring other aspects of our lives into the forefront. Along with the physical, mental and emotional changes that can occur, it’s also a time when we can find ourselves tapping into our life´s wisdom. This phase of life can be a time for us to use our wisdom and life lessons and increase our spiritual growth.

Everyone’s experience of menopause will be different. Some of us sail through menopause with relative ease whilst others face a long list of physical, mental and emotional struggles during this period of their lives. If we allow ourselves to get curious and explore a holistic approach to menopause it’s possible that we may get to understand ourselves in a different way.

My midlife years have been a transformative journey and a time that I have explored different modalities to support myself through menopause. Along the way I have embarked on a spiritual journey that was initially sparked by my personal reiki journey.

So what is reiki?

Its not always easy to explain what reiki is and how it works, since it works on many levels and in many aspects of wellness. However, reiki is a gentle yet powerful form of energy healing originating in Japan, designed to promote balance, healing and wellness across your physical, emotional and mental states. By channeling universal life force energy through the hands, a reiki practioner can help you release stress, alleviate pain and enhance your body’s natural healing abilities.

Can reiki be helpful for menopausal women?

At its core, Reiki is a spiritual practice that acknowledges the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit. Reiki practitioners tap into universal energy and channel it to bring about balance, healing and spiritual alignment.

Stress Relief Through Reiki

Many menopause symptoms stem from an increase in stress levels, once stress levels are reduced the body is more easily able to find balance. Stress experienced during menopauase is often exacerbated by hormonal fluctuations and the physical changes the body undergoes. Reiki with its calming and balancing effects, can be a powerful tool in managing stress.

An Eastern Tradition

Reiki follows the eastern tradition of the chakra system. The chakras are subtle energy centres. There are many chakras in the body but the seven main chakras are located from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each chakra or energy centre relates to specific aspects of physical and emotional wellbeing. Menopause can disrupt the balance of our energy centres and reiki clears and balances these centres, promoting a harmonious flow. This balance improves wellbeing and brings a sense of spiritual grounding and clarity.

The seven main chakras and areas they relate to

Muladhara – Root  chakra – our connection to earth, feeling grounded. In menopause anxiety can increase and this leaves us feeling unsafe.

Svadhishthana – sacral chakra, associated with emotions, hormonal changes and pleasure. As our hormones change it can be difficult to manage our emotions.

Manipura – Solar Plexus chakra centres around self confidence and digestive issues

Anahata – Heart chakra, is linked to our emotions.

Vishuddha – Throat Chakra,  is associated with healthy expression and lies at the base of the the thyroid gland which affects metabolism, appetite and body temperature, think hot flushes.

Ajna – Third Eye chakra relates to confidence in our inner knowing and wisdom. An imbalance here can result in feeling non assertive and lack of self trust.

Sahasrara –  Crown chakra, our centre of spirituality, when out of balance can result in a sense of frustration and can show up as emotional imbalance and headaches

If you’re tired of feeling overwhelmed and disconnected as you navigate the physical, mental and emotional roller coaster of menopause you may consider exploring reiki as a holistic approach to menopause.

Please note, always seek advice from a medical practitioner. Reiki is a complimentory therapy and does not replace traditional medical care.
